1. Information we collect

What we collect depends on how you use the site.

If you just browse the directory

We don't require an account to search the map, view a practitioner's page or contact them. If you allow your browser to share your location, we use it only inside your own browser to sort results by distance. It is never sent to or stored on our servers.

If you message a practitioner or send Fan Mail

The Contact form sends your name, email, phone (if you give it) and message straight to the practitioner's sign-up email. We don't keep a copy of these messages ourselves — the email is the only record. Fan Mail (your words and, optionally, a photo) is stored so the practitioner can review it before it appears publicly on their page, along with your name and email so they can reply.

If you report something to us

The Report page collects the reason, what happened, and an optional name and email, so we can look into it. A person reads every report.

If you create a practitioner account

We collect:

• Your email address and password, or your name, email and profile photo if you sign up with Google.
• Everything you choose to add to your listing: your name, business name, professional title, your story, phone number, verified modalities, gallery photos, social links, and your location(s) and their opening hours.

You control how precisely your location is shown. If you choose postcode-level privacy, we never send your exact address or coordinates to anyone's browser, including on the map — only an approximate area. Your phone number is only shown publicly if you switch that on.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting and security providers automatically log standard technical information — things like IP address, browser type and pages requested — to keep the site running and secure. We don't use this to track you around the web.

2. How we use your information

• To show your listing to people looking for a practitioner.
• To pass on messages, Fan Mail and reports to the right person.
• To run your account: signing you in, verifying your email, and sending password reset links.
• To send the system emails a listing needs — things like a new Fan Mail notice or a certificate update.
• To keep the site secure and stop spam and abuse.

We don't sell your personal information, to anyone, ever.

3. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Each only gets the information it needs to do its specific job:

• Neon hosts our database and handles sign-in, in Australia (Sydney).
• Cloudflare stores gallery and profile photos, and runs the human-check that keeps spam bots off our forms.
• Plunk sends the emails the site generates, like Fan Mail notifications and password resets.
• Google provides the map, place search, and the optional “Sign in with Google” button. Using these features means Google processes some information too, under Google's own privacy policy.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our members or the public.

4. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working: one to keep you signed in, and one from Cloudflare's human-check when you submit a public form. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account and listing information for as long as your account is active. If you deactivate your listing, your information is kept but no longer shown publicly, so you can switch it back on without starting again. If you'd like your account and personal information deleted entirely, email us and we'll take care of it.

6. Children's privacy

Ka Huna Australia is a directory for practitioners and the clients who book them. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

7. Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at any time. Email us and we'll respond as quickly as we can. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

8. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
